Wrinkle relaxers and fillers, explained plainly

Read what these treatments are and what to ask a provider, then request a consultation when you are ready.

Why injectables are handled differently

Facials sit on the skin. Injectables go into or under it, which is why they are treated as medical procedures. That shows up in a few ways:

  • They are given by licensed providers where state law allows.
  • Each state, including Delaware, sets who may inject and what supervision applies.
  • A health history and medicine list are needed before anything is decided.
  • Aftercare and follow-up are usually part of the plan.

Within that frame, the two main types are wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers. A licensed provider explains both at a consultation and says what, if anything, is suitable for you.

How a provider thinks about product and amount

Choosing an injectable takes more than picking a product from a list. A licensed provider looks at the area you want to discuss, how your face moves, your skin, your health and your medicines. With dermal fillers, they also consider which gel and which technique, such as needle or cannula. With wrinkle relaxers, they think about which muscles and how much.

Ask them to talk you through it. You can also ask what they would not do and why. Injectables are given by licensed providers where state law allows, and who may inject is set by Delaware rules.

Planning around events

Bruising and swelling are possible after injectables, so timing is worth thinking about before you go ahead. Look at your calendar for weddings, photos, travel, presentations or anything else where you want to feel at ease. Note those dates and bring them to the consultation.

Also note any dental work or medical procedures coming up, and when you last had injectables, if ever. The licensed provider can then say whether now is a sensible time or whether to wait. Injectables are given by licensed providers where state law allows, and the provider sets the plan with you.

Questions about injectables

Can I have injectables while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Most providers do not give wrinkle relaxers or dermal fillers during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If either applies, or you are planning a pregnancy, tell the provider at the start of the consultation. They will decide what is suitable, which may mean waiting.

How do I know which product a provider is using?

Ask. A provider can tell you the product type, whether it is a wrinkle relaxer or a dermal filler, and why they suggest it. You can also ask for the product name and amount to be noted in your records, which helps if you see a different provider later.

What should I ask an injector?

Ask about their license, training and how often they inject; which product they suggest and why; possible side effects; how they handle complications; and aftercare. The questions to ask page has a longer list you can print or copy.

A licensed provider decides what is suitable for you. Send a request to begin that conversation.
